ABANDONED Ford F250 - First Drive On The HIGHWAY In 25 YEARS!
This classic 1967 Ford F250 was saved off a property a year ago by my son and me. It had been forgotten on a property by a farmer that had apparently given up on the truck. We did get it running, but it had a host of issues to still work through that kept it off the road. A year later, we're ready to get it on the road officially. In this video, we'll be putting a complete brake system including all hard lines, soft lines, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, and even hardware, bearings, and seals. How do YOU think the first drive will go?

You should use earth goggles when using those wire wheels, my uncle was using 1 and 1 of those pieces of wire flew off and stuck right into his eyeball. He had to go to an eye doctor and get it pulled out. It was a brand new wire wheel also, the cup shaped kind for an angle grinder. Just sayin, he said it was very painful!
Can someone please direct me to that socket set for the rear axle nut? I need it for my '68
Yeah, your drum brake hardware looks right only thing is I think the red spring goes on the side towards the front of the truck. The red spring is stronger than the green one and the cable will help set the brakes when you are in reverse and hit the brakes hard to set. I wonder how expensive it is to convert those to disk? 1 to 3 thousand? I started wrenching in 1993 and worked at the now-defunct "The Brake Shop", back then almost every car had a rear drum brake. The w body GM was four-wheel disk but you had to set the rear brakes with the parking brake which no one did and they would freeze, people would come in with complaints that the front of the car dipped upon trying to stop and the bill would be $3000.00 because the rotors and calipers were garbage.
finally found a channel as great as those flat earth channels... hard to believe but YES the EATH IS TRULY FLAT!!🙏💕💖
You remind me about my dad in so many ways when he learned me the hands-on's. He was most comfortable in the garage suit. Everytime we had to drive to a birthday party or something he used to fix something on his car or someone else car. Usually getting a spot of dirt and my mother was cursed about it. He used to smoke 33,3 % tobacco 33,3 % oil and 33,3 % gasoline. Safety was not an issue that he could use, He died in the age of 66 years in 2008 talcking about cars and women to the end.
Man it’s my dream year ford id love one so much
Bruce Lee Egg Roll set, Lmfao, best quote since, oh I don't know, 726 million episodes ago.
You will make a show truck for your little you.
Does your son like Fords?
@35:22 Video premiered 12/1/20. Charley Pride died 11 days later on 12/12/2020!!!
Lets support our favorite show ever and become a fan and pay 5 $ a month we need to keep a feller going. Derrick quit his bank job for this and risked all the biscuits for us lets reward his family back buy merch and become a monthly fan which gives u secret access to videos. God bless VGG
My uncle used to drive an old dodge that had a ton of play in the steering just like this truck. He always said that it was a real truck that you had to actually drive lol.
The guy is so Minnesotan!
"men dont use ebrakes" ha mine dont even work lol
Use a small tapered punch on the split of the cone washer, they walk right out without heat.
This mothers pretty good I’m dying😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
How do you find these old trucks?
Charlie Pride died last summer!
Think I would have converted to discs! That hub over drum design makes it way more difficult than it needs to be.
Awesome episode! 56:20 how much don't I miss driving bias ply tires!!! Thanks for sharing!
Why Tonya Harding?
4 wheel drums brakes = two feet braking
Derrick I don’t know how to spell your name, I must say you are a funny man. You have got me hooked can’t stop watching and I know nothing about the stuff you do but I am now just about ready to do service on any vehicle whatever thank you for the help.🤪🤓
Charlie Pride passed away 11 days after he mentioned him.
Dude! I’m so happy I found your channel I thought I was sarcastic until I saw you... you’ve got the personality of a tree stump and I absolutely love it! You’ve got a life long sub here... very funny pal keep it goin
Not true on the nut before the bearing. You can use a 4 inch chaisle?Maybe? But you can convert it to 5)5 disc brakes on the front door
Can't you use copper lines for brake lines so the don't rust out again???? Just askin.
we want a video of him driving it for first time if hes ok with it
Tough little kid to heft that tire off
New subscriber from.🇲🇽 En texas.👍 Bring the thunder ⚡⚡
This channel is better than Road Kill ever was, Prove me wrong.....You won't.
Best tv show ever👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 keep up the good work man. Best regards Leon,Norway
We see smoke
I think a guy should dump that furd 6, and put a real engine in it. A CHEVY L.S or 454. I could just see the guys putting there peepers on that. Yup ahhaa. I dont know.
If your looking for parts for older trucks ford, chevy. Check out NPD. Best place for parts.
Good thing then backing plates are steel and sturdy and don't need to be replaced, LOL
My first vehicle was a 1970 ford sportscustom long bed, 3 on the tree and a 302 v8. I wish I still had that truck. Great video.
Teach him on the GT 500 Tractor then move to the old truck. I first learned to drive a tractor at 10 then 14 was driving a 89 f150 around the farm. If he already knows how to drive the tractor I am sorry haven't seen that vidya yet.
Brad needs a glass pack muffler on his truck
Dot 4 has different compression properties.
Derrick, I think you’re using wrong brake fluid. Should use dot 2 or 3 for the equip on the truck. Dot 4 has different properties and will be thin and give you a spongy pedal. I think you said dot 4 in the video.
asbestos aroma
Good work rust prevention becomes A regular job.
BTW, Lichen is a unique hybrid creature, born from Moss and Algae. It is neither moss nor algae, but 50/50 of each. Isn't that interesting? Oh, and the only way it grows is if both moss and algae are present. takes both to make Lichen.
That dust from old brake shoes probably has quite a bit of asbestos in it! For bronchial health sake hopefully Derek doesn't blow clean them every brake job. #asbestos#known#carcinogen#
Algae, algal: the stuff on the body of the car that you washed off.
This is wholesome.
Drum brakes are a pain in the arse, that is Aussie for ass which is a donkey to us. Surely they make disc brake conversions for the most made ute sorry again truck in US talk. Would be so much easier to fit- , I have wrestled every 5 to 10 years fixing drum brakes always forgetting how I got it right last time. Keep up your great work.
Enjoying that KGworld now offers up your channel as a prime selection. Can't think of a better place to spend the evening with an ice cube cold snack.
Get this man a BIG NASTY! SMA
Wondering if a short guy appreciates how funny a guy is.
I'm a big ford guy but your subtle digs on Ford make me laugh. These " Furds"..lol. Good job.
throw a block heater in it and i'll drive that hoopty
a better set up is to take the disc brake set up off a 73-79 and update it for much better stopping
@Vice Grip Garage brother you need more videos with the wifey she's cute! 8:06 I can say over the last 40 years I have NEVER seen a drum brake like this one HOLY COW!!
"I'm just gunna crawl inside an slowly pump on her"
"She stops on a dime, and I owe her money" lol, story of my life...
Love this channel 👍
Maybe you can help your boy put a motor in it after teaching him how to rebuild a v8 for it. On another note that truck is so cool. My grandpa god rest his soul had one back in the seventies. It was white with blue hood and fenders automatic with a 390. He had built it out of 3 wrecked trucks. I’d love to find it again one day. My dad tells me of how he stabbed a tree through the radiator off roading it behind the south bend motor speedway. He off roaded a 1969 f100 two wheel drive.
By far my favorite channel!!
I know I said the S-10 would be a good go cart for the kids before you said you wanted to give it to your brother, but I forgot about Bradley's Ford 9000 F250. This really is a handsome rig as far as body lines go. You got some time, but I'd love to see a coat of paint inside the cab and out when little feller starts driving to school.
This truck deserves a full rebuild! It’s got an awesome patina and you could just snip the motor out of her and sell it to the neighbor for a buck and a piece of 876.3 year old gum towards another 6 cylinder. I believe a 4.0 Jeep inline 6 would be a good replacement. They’re gutless and they just won’t quit on a guy. If you weren’t so far I’d be happy to donate my 4.0 in the back yard
I had a '67 Mustang that had a bad steering box and no power steering, and that thing was all over the road trying to keep her straight. Typical Ford.
That's the perfect 1st car.
35:15 minutes of the video: Funny and sad to say 11 days after this video the Late Great Charlie Pride passed away.
again, disc conversion...
those are wireless breaklines-
"Cab Mount, she's wi-fi" ahahahah LMAO
Patience you have, Great dad you are. One of the most knowledgeable mechanics I have seen in a long time and I grew up in the Automotive industry.
I live in WV, and you can't find anything like you find without it being 50% rust. I'm kinda jealous at all the scrap you pull out of the weeds. I really want some of the S10s.
"Firmer than Marissa Tomei" , EPIC!
I think your son will be a great driver, very level headed!
You are more than a father to your boys, you are a dad!
FORD - found on road side dead, fix or repair daily. Derek has already put a lot of TLC in the old girl and she is still cantankerous as all get out. Found this channel in my feed about a week ago and can't get enough. By the way Derek, I'm living in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Right up the road, might as well be neighbors!
Ford is still just as bad with their brakes. Each and ever submodel can have a different brake setup
One of vgg a guy missed wonder how that happened I don't know, I'll be dipped!
Ford always put heavier duty brakes on many trucks and luxury cars. For a while they used stock Lincoln Continental brakes for Nascar.
My Dad bought a new F250 in 72 and I’m pretty sure those Firestones are original equipment.
Algae.
American engineering. You can't beat it
NICE!
"Why is there so many ladybug carcases..?" Oh come on Derek, humor a guy and do a "Vice grip best lines compilation"! Pretty please...?
I would love to have one of these older trucks like this!!! A fixer upper. Absolutely love em.
Wonderful to have a dad who can fix a car as a piece of cake.
The underside of that F250 looks like the wreck of the Titanic. You’re a better man than I.
33:25
My first car cost $400 and didn't run. My dad and I towed it home with a chain. He threw the chilton book at me and said happy first car!
Hate to tell you this, but all those brake parts are clutch parts.
You got to hit her with the Tonya Harding
My brother died hitting the dumpster :(
fucking mint
Try putting your old lug nuts on the end of studs before hammering them out , that way you can reuse the studs if you want.
ooof music at 19:50 . also love seeing some more FERD's on the show
This just confirms the thought I've always had about drum brakes..... best thing a guy can do is carefully take them off...... and throw them directly into the garbage and put on a disc brake conversion. Putting a bunch of time and money into automotive drum brakes always just feels like a waste. A mistake that I will undoubtedly perform again and again in the future....
I picked up a lighter duty one with 40000 original close to the same year with the 360 and the three on the tree from the original owner, carb was trashed from sitting so it was swapped to a newer 2 brl and I put in a floor shift. Paid 300 and it would roast the tires. A sw Florida truck with no rust or dents.
Should be a little more protective of the old asbestos brother! :)
Do your one-day 60 year old lungs a favour and stop blowing out brakes without a proper respirator. That stuff is deadly.
These things...the do something. Now there is a master mechanic at work.
Poor timing on the Charlie Pride request. R.I.P. 😞
