  • There should be a better way to manage elephant herds, instead of culling them. It would be better to relocate them to other places in Africa that needs wild elephants. A land that can support them, especially where trees are abundant.

  • The gentleman who designed and built the brace for the elephant, embodies this quote; "All happiness or unhappiness solely depends upon the quality of the object to which we are attached by love." Take what meaning you want from the quote, but I have always believed in our ability to help those in need and the love shown to the elephant is beautiful.

  • _What kind of people harm fabulous animals like elephants and African lions??_ Obviously, people who don’t give a damn about animals! Why do so many people ask this stupid question??? Also, if you’ve got somebody who has no use for animals, who has endured grinding poverty for who knows how many years and decades, and suddenly somebody is stuffing cash into that person’s pockets for killing an elephant, they aren’t going to hesitate....I AM NOT SAYING IT’S RIGHT, OK??? People ask, so I’m laying it out for them!!!

  • I think this couple are incredible, and that gentleman is also awesome for helping in the way he did. You can feel the love through the screen and I have nothing but 100% respect and admiration for them all. Having said that (don't worry I'm not going to say anything bad about them!) it doesn't matter how young Jabu was when they rescued him, intact adult male African elephants have the potential to get very upset, particularly when he's in musth. Males have no control over their emotions and hormones at that time - I've heard somewhere that it's actually painful for them, though I don't know how true that is. The secretions down his face look like tears. They can get very upset at that time, even though they would not otherwise be in any way negative towards their rescuers - it's totally out of their control. I'm sure that this amazing couple know way more about this than I ever could, but IMHO it's a testament to their love and kindness which allows them this intimate contact with such a potentially dangerous animal. Like I said, that would be because of circumstances outside of anyone's control, especially the elephant's, so it's not a thing I am believing to be anything negative about him. In fact I'm astounded by how positive he is with them. There's a *very* good reason why zoos and other menageries, which breed elephants as part of the "ark" population with the intention of reintroducing them to the wild, only choose Asian eles (apart from the fact that they're more endangered than most - but definitely not all - African populations). Whilst Asians are not exactly small, they go through the same hormonal "episodes". However, even the biggest Asian male doesn't come close to the typical African male when it comes to potential lethality. They're fricking enormous! Asian eles have attacked the keepers that they love, again it's usually a hormonal imbalance causing it. One two-year-old nearly killed his keeper (whom he adored and who loved him back. She is always incredibly gentle and sweet with her charges). But it seemed like he was, unbeknownst to the team because there had been no previous signs of it, maturing too early and couldn't control his actions, so he charged her, squashing her against a wall or other barrier. She was lucky to survive (and never once blamed him. In fact she's got a pair of brass ones because she went back to work with the eles as soon as she recovered!). If an Asian ele "toddler" can do that, imagine what a fully-grown African male could do! Again, I'm not being anti-elephant or in any way, shape or form against his "parents", I'm actually saying how much more I admire them because they must know his potential for danger, even as a once in a lifetime event. If I wore a hat, I'd take it off to them!
