  • I believe many minimum wage workers are easily able to accumulate excuses and richer people are able to replace excuses with opportunity. Edit: I am not trying to insult anyone. It just appears to be a pattern and obviously does not apply to everyone.

  • Super annoyed by the people who think "anyone can become a millionaire." Hard work is only one element of that capability. Being able-bodied, "normal" looking, intelligent enough, being born in the right environment (a child of crack-addicted parents in the ghetto with no role models or access to education is going to have a MUCH harder time climbing out of their circumstances, since they are shaped by them from infancy on), etc...All of these elements affect one's chance of being a "self made" millionaire, and these people in the video completely discount the privilege they were born with.

    meerkensmeerkensКүн мурун
    • its not privilege, for the most part, its luck look up the def of privilege but you don't need to be a millionaire cuz according to the NSA if you don't have kids out of grid lock you get any full time job and you graduate high school he odds of you being in poverty go down to near 0 and anyone can do those things

  • it’s really interesting like how they mention sacrificing a social life. Their values aligned with their path to become millionaires. I think what’s hard is the path to becoming a millionaire for each person is very different (and the options of different paths they have). Maybe yes for one individual theyre able to dedicate all their time to getting connections but at the expense of spending family or friend time. For one person this might not be so much of a sacrifice (maybe they don’t have any anyways or never valued spending time with them as much as working) for another it may be very taxing and stressful and difficult bc they grew up with very meaningful and close relationships with them so it becomes one of their most important values to be with those family and friends. Maybe those family and friends want to spend more time with them or need their help and of course when you care about someone you’re going to want to be there for them. Working a 9 to 11pm job and doing that makes it harder. Everyone has their own energy limits too, sleep requirements, introversion/extraversion. Maybe it takes more work to practice stress management for one person compared to another due to the spectrum of anxieties, depression and other mental illnesses. Each person is so different. Maybe it takes hours for one person to do the same task, social skills don’t come naturally to everyone equally and easily. Yea you can work at everything to get better but take note that the amount of work each individual puts into the same goal is different, and it’s not even due to laziness. It’s just people’s brains and individual ways of learning are so different. Each person has a set of values in order that help define their decisions, each decision may rearrange those values. And there’s people who just had luck or grew up with wealthy parents where maybe they didn’t have to sacrifice family friends time to get to the same level as the previous ppl I described. It’s all so complex and convoluted. But one thing for certain is judging someone on their ability and motivation and even how hard they worked based on a one eye perspective mentality such as “if I can do it so can you” bc it really doesn’t encompass all the complexities each individual has in their life.

  • I definitely believe that hard work can take you many places but as time goes on I'm starting to think that there's only so many successful people in a given field and just because you work hard does not guarantee you a spot. There are different levels of success in a particular field and the highest level can only be filled by a certain amount and that level can expand of course but so is every other level which still means statistically your chances aren't very good at reaching that high high level.

  • Great to see open convo like this but wish this showed more. The work hard become a millionaire thing is a false concept in a society where equity does not exist. Don't get me wrong, it will work for very small % of people. Consider institutional racism and other institutional barriers. Even health predisposition can be a barrier to wealth. Anecdotal evidence from self-made millionaires supporting that theory is a frustrating false hope and frankly a harmful distraction from the fact that we are being exploited and don't live in an equitable society.

  • Does everyone have option of being millionaire... No u have option they say but normal people who have noone in the corner to help and have big bills right away. when u fail u will literally bankrupt yourself if the business is not successful. I feel like u become rich by having people in your corner supporting you. Examples is having a place to stay while your money is being saved up for your business I was kicked out at 17 had good grades but I worked and went to school school only had a few amount of extra money if I were to save to start a business I would need 10 years of minimum savings. So it basically depends on people around you
