  • It seems to me that Trey and Matt were utilizing the deus ex machina trope not so much as a means to convey a message, but rather to reinstate Mr. Garrison as the beloved Mr. Garrison, instead of the weird Trump personification. The story’s “everyone gets vaccinated” solution seems to be their way of aiming towards a (hopefully) vaccinated society in the near future. South Park could therefore return to some kind of homeostasis-always assuming American society doesn’t continue to devolve.

  • Well, I've never looked into Qanon myself. Don't need to; don't feel like it. So I have no opinion on the matter. That being said, the deep dives I've done to research the x trafficking of children and it's relation to elite individuals... my conclusions and exposure to certain things have changed me forever. It's a world wide problem. The sad and shameful part is that America is at the heart of it. Norway and the UK have both had big pedo busts with some rather interesting culprits (Norway's uncovered 150 terabytes of cp), but we don't really get to hear about it over here. Seems like big money-making news to me. And then there's the whole hot mic incident about ABC killing the Epstein story 3 years before the he was caught and the story finally broke. Media follows the money. That was a huge story. They ignored it even though their reporter was uncovering lots of evidence in the UK. But there are images that will haunt me till the day I die and judges that are brought to tears over a world wide issue that they can hardly put a dent in. Something is really wrong. I've tried being sceptical, and my father certainly is, but at times I'm afraid to tell him the things I've found. I don't want him to wear the burden of that information because it's heart wrenching, and on top of that, no one will believe you. It's maddening. But now I've been looking into joining an anti-trafficking organization locally. It's modern day slavery and people often ignore the monster it truly is here in the US. Turn my rage into something productive.

  • Libertarianism makes millenials and others feel like social progress can be made without acknowledging the inherent flaws in the capitalist systems that we have in this country. Meaningful political and social change will not happen until we restructure our focus on profit and ever expanding growth, regardless of consequence.

  • Ok, you are REALLY reaching with saying Cartman represented the free market here. The boys stole the vaccines for ONE single purpose that they all agreed on, and Cartman was trying to go back on his word for money. Markets arent about lying for personal gain. Kinda feels like your just looking for a way to take a pot shot at libertarianism and are contorting what happened to fit that attack

    • They literally wrote themselves into the story as controlling evil bastards, and made a plane appear from magic full of vaccines as part of an agreement with Mr. Garrison and you skim over that by saying "Israel, with its public healthcare, showed up to save the day". Dude you are either intentionally or unintentionally missing the entire point of all the massive 4th wall breaks

  • Two great moments not brought up that sort of relate to the message of the episode: 1.) When showing the bulletin board of Hollywood elites responsible for running a child-eating satanic cult, there is a picture of Matt and Trey. Clearly flagging the whole Q-Anon theory as utter BS. (A point missed by some Q-Anon who actually praised the show for "revealing the truth".) 2.) Near the end, the self-appointed South Park Q-Anon leader Mr. White is transformed (ala Daffy Duck in "Duck Amok") into a large, um, male body part. Once again reinforcing the Q-Anon is BS point and taking it a step further by saying those who push the misinformation on others and encourage them to take action based upon the misinformation are they themselves giant d___s.

  • Frankly I think the pandemic demonstrated the superiority of libertarian thinking from the jump. I remember when people were being called conspiracy nuts for pointing out the spread of Covid and China's attempts to downplay the situation. Then when the governments of the world finally did acknowledge the reality of the threat they response was entirely disproportionate. They looked at a disease that most people could quite easily survive even if they did catch it and decided to lock down people in their homes, prevent kids from going to school even though they were the least at risk, and basically took a hammer to the worlds economies because they believed only a dramatic display of government overreach could appropriately address a relative non-issue. And more people have avoided wearing masks and taking the vaccine BECAUSE it's a government project and they don't trust the government. From start to miserable finish this has been a fabulous demonstration of the inappropriateness of government as a tool for handling such crises because they're slow to respond and when they do respond it's typically a shit show in terms of management and restraint of power.

  • Despite the fact that masks are ineffective at best in preventing infection, although they are good at restricting fresh air and causing asphyxiation. Generally giving less oxygen to the brain, so people can't think straight, and it causes the body to go into fight or flight mode. That causes the immunity system to shut down, one doesn't need to worry about germs vs something biting off your head. Face it, this whole thing was planned. No different than pearl harbour, 911, or name any other event that ultimately put us at war and/or took away our freedoms each and every time. Divide and conquer, to control. We are too many and they know it. Government is not your friend, govern=control ment=mind. It's right there, not hidden, mind control is government, and media is programming. Snap out of it people! Wake up! Insert programmed reaction phrase here- ie conspiracy theorist, left right, crazy. I remember when B.L.M. was Bureau of Land Management, B.T.W. All Lives Matter. Anything else is racist by exclusion. Am I wrong? If someone went out saying white lives matter, they'd be called a racist, Nazi, kkk. Both positions cause division, playing right into the plan. Now apply it to someone in a store without a mask, the fear it causes can make others act crazy. Difference is that it's not one group against another, it's the whole group against one! Open your eyes people! Stand up while it's still possible!

  • I think the central theme may be to show how lack of accountability leads to a general break of trust on society. As on the episode there is a causal relation from the actually proven real elite and the QAnon and the fact that they were doing a lot of mistakes and dubious assumptions from the beginning is actually part of the point, to put them actually as intermediaries, not heads of the process or just some random crazy people and of course leading to real harm, as shown with the vaccines. That narrative is actually coherent in the context of information wars, as present on the current RussiaGate and past pieces of propaganda. One other thing could to be to question the reliability of the narrators

  • Yeah definitely missed the point, the idea that good storytelling and "libertarian" ethics are at the heart of a comedy show with dancing poo is... The world just got a little darker knowing that Wisecrack writers are a bunch of dolts. Comedy rule #1: The funny answer is the right answer. The fact that Kenny dies so much is the eternal turd in the punch-bowl on the notion that this show with kids as protagonists is somehow angling to teach a proper lesson. The lesson is always, "This whole thing is so fucking dumb, how do we poke fun at everything about it?" There never has been and hopefully never will be a single episode of the show meant to leave the audience with some moral grandstanding, that's the fucking point and if you don't get that, like... your head is definitely up your own ass. • Libertarian ideals seem to not be applicable in our world today. How do you reconcile the idea of no government involvement and freedom of choice, when countries with healthcare for all are better prepared for this kind of crisis, and misinformed people are making decisions that will affect all of our society in a negative way? The internet gives the power for anyone to speak up and become famous, but we ended up reconfirming something obvious, that the poor education systems in place made a big part of the population dumb,.They are an easy target for scammers and don't have the tools to differentiate beliefs from well established facts. I personally don't see a way out of this until schools, or parents, teach kids that real information doesn't come from someone who speaks way too passionately or adds manic laughs to his statements, at the very least. I don't have a lot of hope for many of the currently misinformed. Their beliefs border on religious zeal.

  • I just noticed that wisecrack seemed to have completely missed or ignored the intertext of presenting the "real" elites controlling everything (where we see Oprah, Hillary Clinton, George Clooney [the guy who is partially responsable that Southpark got to be created], and the literal creators of Southpark Trey Parker and Matt Stone) just for Mr. Garrison to find a solution to his problems (that wasn't to help anyone, but something that would benefit himself) by talking to the "gods" or real elites and literally creating a new narrative for the people of Southpark to be helped with a Deux Ex Machina. I feel this was a little bit too on the nose, in an episode about people looking for secret meanings, to think it was mere coincidence, just saying, the point might have passed over Wisecrack's heads. Still, cool episode Wisecrack, keep it up.

  • This was always bound to happen. The reason South Park can’t provide a cohesive answer, and has been so rapidly unraveling since 2016, is that it’s nihilistic too-cool-for-school approach to politics, so evocative of its late 90s origins, doesn’t have what it takes to keep up with a society where the stakes have been raised so high. They’ve been pontificating on this exact issue for several years as well. In Season 21, the episode where Kyle begins acting like his mother and forms an Anti-Canadian group is pondering over this very dilemma. The creators were asking themselves if they still had a place in a world where actually caring about the issues has become more and more important. It seemed that in that instance, they decided that South Park still had a few years left in it. But if these last two specials are anything to go by, then Kyle was right, Terrence and Phillip are obsolete, and therefore so is South Park.

You can convince any idiot that they need to inject disinfectants into their own lungs. And I'm not talking about an idiot president that people inexplicably believe, I'm talking about every psychological trick an average company can pull on you in the grocery store. And also, yes, people inexplicably believe an idiot president when he says obviously stupid shit. I don't even think that *I* know everything enough to be the best advocate of my own self-interest. *HAVE YOU SEEN MY BMI, LATELY!?* And if I don't think that *I* am good enough... why would I think any of *you* are good enough?

  • You guys say south park is nihilistic because you want to lower it to the same level of the other shit you publish on your dawn channel. Vaccination is a political matter, and the main issue is that by vaccinating the old first you easily get their approval in the next election. Also old people run a far greater risk of getting sick if they get much more isolated than most of them already are, so a partial vaccine is most efficient for them. Once they start to feel useful they will interact with their family in order to let them go to the supermarket and stuff, and if they are not too lonely, will try to stop other members of the family from going out and ask them to make them company, as most of them have been doing for most part of their lives, but now they have "cientific" grouds to do so. South park has great characters, way better than any show you've talked about in this channel thus far, and that allows them to misrepresent the authors original political biases, making the show all the more artistic. Ir is the polar opposite of wisecrack, that selects the presentators of the show in order to make us tolerate the greatest amount of shit possible. Your troupe about misinformation is ok, hte key is Harold Bloom's concept of misreading and its later derivation into the feminist word mansplain.

    • masks prevent the spread more than prevent you from getting it. if you have covid but don't know it, like you think its a cold or you're asymptomatic, and you don't wear a mask you could give it to someone else who could take it a lot worse (like an older person or an obese person). Wearing a mask is out of courtesy for others so that you don't unknowingly give COVID to someone's grandmother. the statement is obviously over simplified but it's not fallacious.

    • How is it fallacious.

  • I get the message they’re trying to send, but the episode implies that misinformation is only coming from one side of the political spectrum. I’m not super political, but that’s just objectively not true. There’s psychotic deranged idiots on both sides, and they didn’t really address that.

    • @Squidward Q. Tentacles Sure, leftists overstate issues in hyperbolic terms sometimes. I'll admit that. Twitter is a dumpster fire that should be engaged by nobody. That being said, at least these are still REAL issues. The country is still systemically racist, that's just a fact. Might not be a fact you want to hear but that's irrelevant. This may come as a shock to you but racism, and the effects of 300 years of black people being treated like second-class citizens, did not disappear the second the Civil Rights Act was passed. If you're interested in learning about it, then this is perhaps the best video on the subject: kgworld.info/wiki/video/m6abkKtoea2YyKU If you don't understand why people call things like voter ID laws racist, the answer is in that video. There's more depth to that issue (and others) than you might think.

    • @IAN 4000 “the country is (currently) systemically racist” “Black people are being HUNTED” “The world will end in 12 years due to climate change” “This makes Jim Crow look like Jim eagle” (lol) “We need to be more controversial” referring to “peaceful demonstrations” “Vote for your life” Not to mention their promotion of race and gender based hiring practices. That’s just off the top of my head. You can side with whoever you’d like. But not admitting the flaws of your own side makes you look like a political hack

    • @Squidward Q. Tentacles How does the left "push racial division"? And can you give an example of their fear mongering?

    • @IAN 4000 Pretty much, yeah. I’d probably say that the left does it a little more these days, though. They push racial division, and their fear-mongering is second to none. That’s not to say that the right is perfect, because they have flaws too. But I think the left is a little more blatant and disgusting in the way they go about it.

  • Michael hit the nail on the head talking about how a libertarian point of view can't cope with a pandemic. Much of the nuttiness exhibited during the pandemic has been worldviews crashing into reality, particularly belief in small government meeting a crisis only big government can cope with. Now add on the fear of the logical conclusion, that there are other crises or serious problems that require a big government solution. I wonder if exploding heads spread COVID-19?
