  • Thanks for the education. I hadn't heard the name stoat before. In the US I'd only heard of short-tailed weasel and ermine as names. I butchered a deer in the shop and brought the meat into the house in a bucket and left it for morning to fully trim it. A stoat found its way into the kitchen and found him trying to get into the bucket. He let me watch his attempts until I absent-mindedly put some peppermint oil into a pot on the woodstove and he was gone immediately since the smell overwhelmed his protective device.

  • I can’t find the person who posted this because I had to go and check the research. He said that stoats have killed many birds in New Zealand. I knew right away that this was done by humans and I was correct. Stoats are not native to New Zealand they are native to North America. They did the same thing in Australia. Humans introduced stoats to try and control the out of control rabbit population. I can’t remember why rabbits were introduced in this predator free environment but it soon got out of control and both Australia and New Zealand. So don’t play in the stoats , blame the stupid humans that did this. Remember that episode from the original Star Trek? It was called “ the trouble with triibbles. “ well that was a metaphor for humankind‘s stupidity in trying to solve a problem by introducing a non-native species to control another non-native species. I don’t know when we’ll ever learned this doesn’t work out and makes the problem worse. We cannot control nature like this. OK this stupid voice app isn’t working anymore and my neck is killing me from staring down at this hopeless POS of a stupid robot. .. When somebody tells you that a species is out of control and killing another species dollars to donuts is because of humans. Nature is in perfect balance until we F with it. Over and out

  • The stoat or short-tailed weasel (Mustela erminea), also known as the ermine, is a mustelid native to Eurasia and North America. Because of its wide circumpolar distribution, it is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. NOW YOU PEOPLE KNOW JACK !!

  • heartwarming. We need them in the wild because they predate the Grey Squirrels we are plagued with that are not an indigenous species. Stokes naturally get rid of them and once gone they stay away. They also predate birds and eggs but this species has evolved to cope with that threat, domestic cats are far more of a problem.

  • Fun little story: A few summers back, my dad was mowing the lawn and stumbled upon a completely new born wild mouse. No mother in sight. Just laying in the grass. My dad would of hit it with the mower if he didn’t see it. We brought it inside and nursed it. We called him Nico Burrito. After a few weeks however, it started getting very very obese. So we looked up what that means and apparently we were crippling it’s ability to survive on its own. So we brought it to my local state park and let it be free as soon as we could. We built a little house for him and everything. I don’t know where he is now. But I hope he’s happy and safe.
